Rick comes from good Welsh stock. His father John played for Cardiff, Wales, and remains the first and only British Lion to be sent off! Rick grew up in Cornwall which like Wales boasts a proud tradition of Rugby and Rick learned the game with the “Pirates” of Penzance & Newlyn.!
Rick returned to Wales to continue his education at what was South Glamorgan Institute or Cardiff Metropolitan in new money. He arrived as a scrum half but left as prop, one of his many stories worth hearing!
Whilst at Cyncoed he earned Welsh Student caps in both Union & League, before returning to Cornwall to play for the Pirates.
His shoulder however was dodgier than his scrummaging and when injury forced him to pack up playing Rick offered his services to Radio Cornwall as a freelance rugby correspondent laying the foundations for the parallel career as a broadcaster.
Never one for convention, in 2008 he began a Post Graduate Medicine Degree at Swansea University. He qualified in 2012 and is now on The GP Training Scheme in The Glamorgan Valleys.
